He was predeceased by: his parents, Lorene Downing (Vann) and Roy Downing; his daughter Charlene Spears; his wife Johnetta Downing (Dennis); his stepmother Corine Downing; his siblings, John Downing, Solomon Downing, Betty Mae Downing, Juanita Downing and Gracie Carter; and his grandsons, Clinton Norton Jr. and Eilbert Norton.
He is survived by: his son Mitchell Jay Downing Sr.; his siblings, Gladys Doyle, Verna Rogers, Karen Watson, Vina Ramsey, Valorie Downing, Paul Downing, Farris Downing and Bobby Downing; his grandchildren, Mona Slay, Jerry Marshall Jr., Jerod Marshall, Gilbert Norton, Destiny Wilson, Gary Wilson, Denasha Hayward, Shamira Hayward, Erin Towers, Tyren Ricks, Mitchell Jay Downing Jr., Nevaeh Jane Downing and Nylah Ann Downing; and his aunt Rosalee White. He is also survived by grandkids and a numerous amount of nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, December 5th 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Benjamin Funeral Services (114 W Cherokee Ave, Nowata, OK 74048). A funeral service was held on Friday, December 6th 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Hillside Christian Church (1348 W Davis Dr, Nowata, OK 74048). A burial was held on Friday, December 6th 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Memorial Park Cemetery.
