He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederick Karl and Vida Jane Appl (Gates); his brother Dr. Fredric C. Appl (Natalie); and his daughter Kathryn. He is survived by: his daughters, Patricia Janette and Virginia Annette (Keith Meurer); his wife Velma; his granddaughters, Lya Trammell and Kacey Meurer; and his great grandchild Anabel Apple Trammell. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Amidst his education, Franklin met Velma C. Finkenbinder of Syracuse, KS, at the Disciples Student Foundation at K State.
