He was predeceased by: his wife Patti Shobert; his parents, Fred Shobert and Alma Shobert (Minor); his brother Dale Piper; his brother-in-law Pat Pattillo; and his nephew Matt Cottrell.

He is survived by: his son Rodney Lee Shobert of Welling; and his sisters, Reta Cottrell (Jackie) of Noble and Carol Pattillo of Noble.
