He was predeceased by: his parents, James Jacob Chaney and Rosalee Chaney (Jarmon); his wife Bobbie Handke; his son James Michael; and his siblings, Roe Lee Chaney (Eva) and Norma Larue Lindsey (Eddie).
He is survived by: his sister Mary Lou Marks (Chaney); his children, John Joel Chaney (Carmen) and Donna Kae Skidmore; and his grandchildren, Emily Machala (Kevin), Kyle Skidmore (Stephanie), Nicole Chaney, Kevin Skidmore, Joshua Chaney, Callen Machala, Graham Machala, Scotland Machala, Autumn Chaney, Jaxon Chaney, Keaton Chaney, Benjamin Skidmore and Cameron Skidmore. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.
