He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Thornton and Hazel Thornton; his sister Donna Burkhart; his former wife Maxine Thornton; his wife Delores Thornton; his grandson Eric Parenzan; and his stepson Wendall Horn.

He is survived by: his children, Mitch Thornton (LaLisa Thornton) and Kim Parenzan; his grandchildren, Shelby Balocca, Angela Ruth (David Ruth), Dawn Thornton and Toni Parenzan; his great grandchildren, Steven Balocca, Cory Balocca, Gunnar Ruth, Baker Ruth, Walker Ruth, Kayton McDoulett, Cade Moody and Aiden Parenzan; his great great grandchildren, Arden Balocca and Cooper Balocca; and his brother David Thornton.
