He was predeceased by: his parents, James Doner and Catherine Agnes Doner; his wife Glenda Blanche Doner (Horn); and his siblings, Patricia Haizlip and Byron Doner.

He is survived by: his children, Amy Loper (Eric), Richard E. Doner II (Chrysi) and Rachel Shingleton (Simon); and his grandchildren, Benjamin Richard Loper, Matthew Hammell Loper, Luke Andrew Loper, Noah Richard Doner, Abigail Blythe Doner, Amelia Kate Doner, Jude Simon Shingleton and Archer Bryce Shingleton.
