Reta Marie Scales Obituary

Reta Marie Scales, 85, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2020. She was born on November 30, 1934 in Cardin, OK. At the time of her passing she was residing with her son in Cypress, TX.

Reta was the daughter of Gilbert and Mildred (Holt) Carrico, the sister of Geneva Wyrick and wife to Gene McBrien and Dean Scales, all of whom preceded her in death.

Reta graduated from Commerce High School and NEO A&M and thoroughly enjoyed the many friendships and reunions through the years since graduation. One of her fondest memories of school years was being a member of the NEO Norse Star.
After graduation, Reta worked for First National Bank in Miami, OK as well as working with her parents at their grocery store, Carrico Grocery, in Commerce, OK. As the boys grew, Reta went to work at Consolidated, in Treece, KS and eventually she and Dean started their own electric company, D&R Electric, where she worked until their retirement.
Reta's biggest sense of pride and accomplishment was in raising her three sons. And when introducing or talking about them it was evident by her beaming smile.
Reta was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Commerce and lovingly served in the nursery and on the Benevolence Committee, utilizing her wonderful cooking skills.

Reta is survived by her three sons, Eddie McBrien and wife Carri of Cypress, TX, Gary McBrien and wife Susan, of Claremore, OK and Bobby McBrien, and wife Cheryl of Milton, FL. Grandchildren Krista McBrien and husband Christopher Falgout, Gilbert McBrien, Kaitlyn Dillon, Darci McEwen and husband Logan, Michael McBrien and Gene McBrien and wife Katheryn. Reta also had three great grandchildren.

Graveside services and internment will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2020 at the G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, OK with Pastor Larry Moore officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Beresford Funeral Home, Houston, TX and Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami, OK.
