He was predeceased by: his parents, Reverend Earl and Erna Prater (Fawks); his wife Helen Jane Prater; and his siblings, Helen, Don, Martha, Edna, Rush and Becky.

He is survived by: his children, Anita Smith (Ben) of Miami, Mark Prater (Dixie) of Broken Arrow and Tammy Prater of Miami; his grandchildren, Kevin Hatley (Tera) of Miami, Colby Hatley (Beth) of Springfield, Thomas Prater of Broken Arrow and Natalee Prater of Broken Arrow; his great grandchildren, Brandi Hatley and Austin Hatley; and his great great grandchildren, Tevin Hatley, Darrien Alexander and Daizee Hatley.

The family has asked in lieu of flowers to donations to be made to the First United Methodist Church of Fairland.
