He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard "Dick" Smith and Mary Smith; and his sister Mary Rebecca Smith. He is survived by: his wife Laura Smith; and his children, Lindsay Smith, Whitney Rush (Ricky), Sadie Harrison (Jeremiah), Taylor Smith of Springfield, Andy Brodrick of Springfield and Anna Brodrick of Joplin.
