He was predeceased by: his parents, Eddy Smith and Minnie Bell Smith (Hammer); his wife Mary; his son Jerry Don Smith; and his siblings, Raymond, Bob, Leon, Jack Smith and Bea Webster.
He is survived by: his children, Lisa Diane Smith Beard (Michael), Amy Blevins and Edward Lee Smith (Johnna); his grandchildren, Megan Baumann (Jordan), Caleb Beard (Miranda), Jerry Jewell (Jacob), Jeffrey Blevins, Jeramy Blevins, Jacob Blevins and Phoebe Smith; his sister Lillie Faye Sigler; and his close friend Jerry Nave. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
