He was predeceased by: his parents, Laura Beulah Cullin and Bill Chaplin; his brother Kevin Chaplin; his parents-in-law, Howard and Elizabeth Megli; and his brother-in-law Earl Megli.

He is survived by: his wife Betty (Mimi); his son Chad Chaplin (Dana); his grandchildren, Grady Chad and Landri Daryl; his daughter Jamie Talley (Nathan); his grandchildren, Megli Elizabeth, Harper Grace, Finnley James and Greleigh Jayne; his siblings, Robert Chaplin (Denice) of Oklahoma City and Deni Bagley (Fred) of Sarasota; and his brother-in-law Max Megli (Linda) of Carnegie. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials in honor of James can be made to your local food bank, homeless shelter, or youth group.
