He was predeceased by: his parents, Juan Bautista and Juana Leon Malave (Coto). He is survived by: his wife Paula Steiner; and his children, Leo Malave Jr. of Bakersfield, CA, Tommy Malave (Barbara) of Lawton, OK, Karoline Richards, Brigitte (Robert File), Juana (Blaine Sperr) and Stephanie (Gerald Green). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
