He was predeceased by: his parents, Dorothy Mae Cunningham-Mefford and John Dee Cunningham, Jr.; his stepfather Calvin Mefford; and his nephews, Craig Smith and Timothy Keys.

He is survived by: his sister Barbara Keys (James); and his nieces and nephews, Ann "Betsy" Angiel (James), Allison Shafer (Russel), Ida Spangle (Richard), Kristen Keys, George Allen Smith (Ellen), Stuart Andrew Smith, Thomas Adam Smith, William "Bill" Keys (Chastity), James "Jay" Keys (Crystal), Tristen Keys, Justin Keys and Gavin Keys. He is also survived by many extended family and friends.
