He was predeceased by: his parents, Leon Burks, Sr. and Elnora Burks (Pullins); his brother Leon "Stoney" Burks Jr.; his sister-in-law Aretha Burks; his sister Dr. Louretha Salmon; his brother-in-law Jesse Salmon Sr.; his grandson Demarcus Merritt; and his mother-in-law Joretta Rodgers.

He is survived by: his wife Sharon; his children, Dalaka'Burks (Steve) of Lawton, OK, Jerry "Richard" Burks II (Lydia) of Leavenworth, KS, Zytia Miller (Lester) of Lawton, OK and Michael "Quin" Abson of Lamar, SC.; his grandchildren, Nicholas, David, Naomi, King, Carli, Logan, Jakaveon and Symphony; his siblings, William Burks (Lynne), Sandra Boyd (Samuel Sr.) and Willie Jean Pickens; and his sister-in-law Denise Johnson. He is also survived by relatives and friends.

Viewing was held on Wednesday, November 13th 2024 from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM and on Thursday, November 14th 2024 from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home (632 SW C Ave, Lawton, OK 73501). A funeral service was held on Friday, November 15th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Trinity Baptist Church (1916 W Gore Blvd, Lawton, OK 73501).
