It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Herman Eugene Lett (Lawton, Oklahoma), who passed away on July 21, 2019, at the age of 95, leaving to mourn family and friends.Herman Eugene Lett, 95, Mountain Park, Oklahoma, was a shy, quiet and loving soul who passed into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at his home in Mountain Park. He was born March 10, 1924 on the family farm near Mountain Park to Joseph and Ada Lett. Our dad was a wonderful husband, married to his best friend Bernice N. King for 68 years. They were married September of 1946 in Vernon, Texas. She passed away May 21, 2015. From this loving union they had five children, and Herman became a wonderful father to Carol, Basil, Jane, Eldon and Danny. He was always family oriented, even though he worked long hard hours. Sunday was always set aside for family adventures, (The Sunday Drive). Our dad taught us many life- long lessons. Family values, honesty, strong work ethic and to always care about others, whether It’s family, friend or a stranger. He taught by example, with love and patience. Herman was a man of adventure, and in his early teens he rode boxcars on the railways to see the world. He joined the US Navy during WW II and was a Seabee. He helped to keep the roads, bridges and military equipment, safe for his fellow service members. He made lifelong friends and was able to see the world and bring back stories of the bravery of those who served to keep us at home safe and free. In 1978 he and Bernice went to Iran, where he worked for Northrup Grumman. They enjoyed being together. Everything he did, he did with honor. Herman’s smile would light up a room. His smile came from the heart, a heart that loved and remembered wonderful times as a child, and a sibling of 11 brothers and sisters. They had fun times and hard times growing up. Herman always new everyone’s birthday, even those of his nieces and nephews. He accomplished a lot in the long life God gave him. He was a farmer and school bus driver in Oklahoma, and for over 20 years as a welder in California. His co-workers always kidded him about keeping his area too clean. In 1973 he moved back home to Mountain Park to help run the Mountain Park Café, the black smith shop, work for the US Postal Service, farm and raise a wonderful garden that he shared with family, friends and neighbors. The man we called “Daddy” was hard working and loved us with all his heart. He showed us how to work hard, be a great husband, father and man. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children; Carol and husband Rick Miller of Nocona, Texas, Basil and wife Kathy Lett of Mountain Park, Jane and husband Don Cadillac of Fresno, California, Eldon and wife Martha Lett of Las Vegas, Nevada, 8 grandchildren; Donnie Lett, Joe Lett and wife Heather, Kevin Miller and wife Roxanne, Michael Johnson and wife Trudy, Adam Johnson, Chad Johnson and wife Julia, Dannalee Lett and Brendan Lett. He is also survived by 10 loving great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bernice, his siblings, a son Danny V. Lett and two grandsons, Christopher Lett and Bryan Miller.
