She was predeceased by: her parents, Willie Gardner and Effie Patterson; her husband H. B. Smith; and her siblings, Maudie, Bobbie, Lavtrice, Carrie, Edna, Billy, Prince, Jessie, Willie and Herscel.
She is survived by: her former spouse Meldon T. Carter, Sr.; her children, Meldon T. Carter, Jr. (Glenda) of Glenn Heights, James Derek Carter (Melanie) of Tucson, Torrence Eugene Carter (Charlene) of Tucson, Patrick Sean Carter (Tina) of Oklahoma City and Sylvia Carter Osborne of Northlake; her stepchildren, Jan Smith, Gerry Smith and Troy Smith; and her brothers, Manzell Gardner of Amarillo and Larnce Gardner of Terrell. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, many great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
