He was predeceased by: his parents, Olin Glen and Monnie Etta Downing; and his siblings, Glenetta Sue Rogers and Gary Keith Downing. He is survived by: his wife Janis Merrolie Wilson; his children, Meredith, Blake Downing and Paul Downing (Noor); his niece Emily Bushey (Danny); and his children, Allie, Ryan, Mark Wilson (Jamie), Avery, Logan, Colby Wilson (Elaine), Evan Ramsey (Nicole), Shelby Frye (Cosmo), Phoebe, Carter and Michael Hutton (Allie).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to either the Oklahoma City Museum of Art or the National Audubon Society, two causes David supported throughout his years.
