He was predeceased by: his parents, Ethel Sumner (Nichols) and Newton Sumner; his former wife Carolyn J. Sumner; and his siblings, Dorothy Baker, Mildred Tayrien, Shirley Swan, Jake, Michael, Richard and Bill Sumner.
He is survived by: his wife Rose Ellen Sumner (Hendrix); his children, Debra Decker of Bartlesville, OK and James Sumner, Jr. of Dewey, OK; his stepchildren, Carl Blaker of Gore, OK and Cynthia Blaker of Gore, OK; and his siblings, Evelyn Revard of Dewey, OK, Jess Sumner of Ramona, OK and Jerry Sumner of Ochelata, OK. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
