He was loved and cherished by many people including: his mother Jennie Ratze Garard; his former wife Barbara Hurst; his children, Allen Garard (Sue) of Springfield, MO., David Garard (Pam) of Shannon Ill, Mark Garard (Beverly) of Enid, OK., Clair Garard (Jane), Dan Garard (Teri) of Charleston, SC., Dawn Leaderbrand (Kenneth) of Fairview and Fonda Raelean; and his wife Barbara Garard. He was also cherished by twenty-one grandchildren, twenty five great-grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren.
