He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Jasper, Florence Bates, Luther and Merle Keel; his parents, Willis Bates and Estel Bates; his sisters, Jodi Walker and Marji Cowles; his niece Brandi Rider-Bates; and his great-nephew Heath Bates.
He is survived by: his children, Jason Bates, Mindy Bates and Tim Bates (Emily); his nephew Chris Cowles; his grandchildren, Cheyenne, Johnathon, Chesney (Steely), Brooklyn (Louis), Melody (Cameron), Mikayla, McKenzie, Malachi and Amelia; and his great grandchild Carsyn. He is also survived by great nieces, nephews, and friends.
