He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Clyde Stewart and Lena Mae Stewart (Sharber); and his wife Joyce Lorene Kingsley (Malan). He is survived by: his children, Lorie Deffenbaugh (Tim) of Clinton, Joseph Stewart II (Crystal) of Edmond and Jerry Stewart (Susy) of Edmond; and his stepbrother Milton "Cookie" Idell. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.
