He was predeceased by: his parents, Johannes P. Nikkel and Tina Nikkel (Reimer); his sisters, Geraldine Hook and Wanda Adams; and his son-in-law Joe E. Edwards.

He is survived by: his wife Greta Jo Warkentin; his children, Charlotte Edwards of Edmond and James Kim (MaryLou) of Weatherford; his grandchildren, Jamie Scharich (Brian) of Camarillo, Joshua Nikkel (Sachiko) of Point Mugu and Jodi Laegreid (Peter) of Lincoln, Nebraska; his great grandchild Jameson Scharich; and his brother Lorn (Lela) of Granbury. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Corn Volunteer Fire Department.
