He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Lister and Carrie Lister (Fredrick); his wife Dorothy Jean Henderson; his sons, James Lister and Robert Lister; and his sisters, Myrtle Thompson, Bertha Evans, Leora Bell and Bernice Grayson.
He is survived by: his children, Carrie Calip (Willie) and Billy Joe Lister, Jr. of Clinton, OK; and his sister Jewell McBrayer. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
