He was predeceased by: his parents, C. A. Nelson and Edna Nelson; and his wife Denise Nelson. He is survived by: his children, Joseph Nelson Jr. and Mindy Gerving; his granddaughters, Rachel and Rebecca Gerving; and his sister Shirley Wilhoite.
Viewing was held on Thursday, December 26th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Rice Funeral Service (631 E Will Rogers Blvd, Claremore, OK 74017). A celebration of life was held on Friday, December 27th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Westwood Church (605 Westwood Dr, Claremore, OK 74017).
