Mary Lou Key Obituary
Mary Lou Key was born January 16, 1929, in Chandler, OK to Eddie and Marie (Reese) Mattheyer and passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Weatherford Regional Hospital at the age of 95 years, 2 months, and 26 days.
Mary Lou was raised and attended school in Chandler graduating from Chandler High School in 1947. On September 14, 1947, Mary Lou married the love of her life, Donald Key. They made their home in Chandler and were blessed with two children, Jerry and Cindy. They later moved to Enid, OK before moving to Duncan, OK, Worland, Wyoming, returning to Enid, OK, and finally settling south of Thomas, OK in 1969. They were happily married for 66 years.
Mary Lou worked as a secretary and book-keeper for a local hospital, doctor's office, and bank, and later as a clerk at Santa Fe Energy before retiring in the early 1990s.
Mary Lou was a devout Christian and her faith and service never wavered. Mary Lou was a member of the United Methodist Church throughout her life. After moving to Thomas, she joined the Bethany Church where she taught Sunday School and Awanas. Mary Lou spent countless hours of service at Bethany and was a great prayer warrior. She very much enjoyed sitting in the back pew during worship handing out candy to all the children.
Mary Lou cherished her family and friends. She loved to garden, fish, read, do crossword puzzles, and had a generous gift of hospitality. Many people called her "Mama Lou". She was an amazing seamstress, cake decorator, cook, and friend. Her greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Mary Lou is survived by her son-in-law, Willie Moore of Fay; three grandchildren, Matthew Moore of Thomas, Kelly Lackey and husband, Vinson of Weatherford, Jay Moore and wife, Maci of Helena; and seven great-grandchildren, Keon, Khloe, Raiden, and Penelope Lackey, and William, JC, and Lola Moore. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; one son, Jerry; one daughter, Cindy; two brothers, Ted and Forrest; and one sister, JoAnn.
