He was predeceased by: his parents, Addie Mae Shoemaker (Downs) and Abner Lowe Shoemaker; his stepfather Royce Hutson; and his siblings, Deliliah Arterburn, Zula Mae Culwell, Freddie Lowe Shoemaker and Jerry Shoemaker.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Christene Shoemaker (Riggs); his daughter Cynthia; his son-in-law Tim Johnston; his son Sam; his daughter-in-law Lisa Shoemaker; and his sons, Kelly Shoemaker and Wade Shoemaker. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews.
