He was predeceased by: his father Samuel Rex Mathews Sr.; and his former wife Wanda. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Jones Mathews; his sisters, Bessie Potts of Haworth and Marthel Smith of Santa Clarita; and his children, David Mathews (Moira) of Baytown, Pamela McKinley (Freddie) of Crossett and Penny Stark (Alfred) of Haworth. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
