He was predeceased by: his parents, John Mitchell and Oma Opal Mitchell; his child James Edward Mitchell; his brothers, Sonny Mitchell and Moreland Felix Mitchell; and his grandson Jimmy Richards Jr..
He is survived by: his wife Sarah Mitchell; his children, Mary Sue Richards of Texas, Gary Mitchell, Wayne Mitchell and Tommy Mitchell (Sue) of California; his sister-in-law Ruthie Mitchell Cunningham; and his niece Sherri Sharp. He is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
