He was predeceased by: his father Bobby L. Herndon; his stepfather Ron H. Payne; his grandparents, Lloyd, Leona Herndon, Clifford and Agnes Porterfield; and his stepgrandparents, Harold (Red) and Loraine Payne (Honey).
He is survived by: his mother Vera Porterfield; his wife Laura Herndon; his mother-in-law Margaret Treude; his daughters, Jamey Stevenson and Jessica Herndon; his stepson Josh Corbett (Kris); his siblings, Diane Smith (Mike) and Rick Payne (Jennifer); and his grandchildren, Devon, Trinity, Poppy, Tristan, Abram, Samson and Solomon. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Jim's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
