He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilma Louise Kates (Robinson) and Richard Ray Kates. He is survived by: his wife Lucinda Kates (Eastham); his children, Catherine Erwin and Douglas Kates (Jennifer); his brothers, Henry Kates (Nelda) and Glen Kates (Patsy); and his grandchildren, Tara, Lucas and Sara. He is also survived by six great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives.
