He was predeceased by: his parents, Annie Marie Carter (Dees) and Benjamin Reece Carter; his wife Geneva Carter; his son Stephen Ray Carter; and his siblings, Sam Carter, Melba Wilson and Sondra Strickland.
He is survived by: his grandsons, Jonathan Carter and Sam Carter; his great grandchildren, Colton Ray Carter, Cierra Carter and Nikayla Carter; and his siblings, Doris Davis and Harold Carter.
