He was predeceased by: his parents, Nellie Maude Wente (Tedro) and William Henry Wente; his wives, Sylvia Doris Brown and Gerry; his sisters, Doris Evelyn, Minnie Hulda, Prudence Elizabeth "Beth" and Mae Eunice; and his son David.

He is survived by: his former wife Geraldine Hopkins; his son John Wente (Linda) of Yukon, Oklahoma; and his stepchildren, Ronnie Hopkins (Priscilla) of Vinita, Oklahoma, Maxine Altebaumer of Blackwell, Oklahoma. and Janet Crowe of Blackwell, Oklahoma.. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews.
