He was predeceased by: his parents, James Curtis and Letha Lou Payne (Good); and his sister Emily Armstrong. He is survived by: his wife Melva; his children, Susan Anthony (Mike) and Curt Payne; his grandsons, Jackson Anthony (Allie Brannan), Caleb Payne (Jordan), Peter Anthony (Hannah Perry) and Kyler Payne; and his brothers, Jim Payne (Sherry) and Larry Payne (Martha). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
