He was predeceased by: his brother Don Holt. He is survived by: his parent Wilma Smith; his spouse Jeanette; his sons, Ernie D. Smith, Jr. and Steven Eric Smith (Shanna); his sisters-in-law, Lurley Holt and DeAn Mitchell; and his siblings, Lance Mitchell, Marilyn Fryer, Donna Porterfield, Peggy Morgan and Cheryl Rowbotham.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
