He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl C. Johnson and Pauline L. Johnson (Goodell); his brothers, Charles Johnson, Richard Johnson and Billy Johnson; and his brothers-in-law, Robert Herd, Glendell Gaskins and Jake Dowdy.

He is survived by: his siblings, Betty Herd, Gladys Evans (Ronnie), Sharon Dowdy, Laneeta Gaskins and Tommy Johnson (Kay). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
