He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Edward "R. J." Johnston, Sr. and Elba "Cutchie" Johnson Johnston; his former wife Augusta Pearl "Gussie" Hewitt; his daughter Pam Johnston; and his siblings, Richard, Jerry, Ralph and Jeannie Goodman.
He is survived by: his wife Peggy Marlene Vaughn Myers; his stepchildren, Billy Joe Myers (Angela), Rhonda U Schoonover (Craig), Sherry Peterson (Robert), Cathy Andrews, James Russell "Rusty" Moody (Carla) and Billie Kelley; and his granddaughters, Tara Johnston and Lee DeJannett. He is also survived by other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
