He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilber Z. Whittle and Mattie L. Keene; his wife Sue; and his siblings, Donald Whittle (Ethelene) and Jeri Odom.
He is survived by: his daughter Susan; his son-in-law Jeff of Fairbanks, Alaska; his grandsons, Phillip (Hilary) of Fargo, ND and Joshua of Fairbanks, AK; his great grandchildren, Harper and Bodie; his brother-in-law Leon Odom; his nieces, Donna Mast (John), Dana Odom, Dr. Angharad Young and Lisa Kiefer (Rick); and his nephew Bob Bransford (Pam).
Wilbur spent his 33 year career at the Noble Foundation as a cell biologist active in cancer research.
