He was predeceased by: his parents, W. A. Winchester and Letha Maude Winchester; and his siblings, William Harold Winchester and Doris Gammill. He is survived by: his wife Linda Bohm Winchester; his children, Jerry Winchester (Rae), Carrie Rhoades (Coleman) and Suzanne Ferrell (Bentley); his grandchildren, Leigh Peterson (Timothy), Abbie Winchester, Jill Grounds (David), John Ferrell and Katie Ferrell; his brothers, Curtis Winchester, Larry Winchester and Jerry Don Winchester; and also Zoe Grounds.

Jimmy's hobbies included donating blood, playing the baritone in the community band, building telescopes, tying fishing flies and building fishing rods showcasing his love for trying new things and his inventive spirit.
