He was predeceased by: his parents, Bill Miller and Delphine Miller (Shackleford); and his niece Wrennie Haney. He is survived by: his siblings, Gary Miller of Reagan and Val Dene Bailey (Bruce) of Reagan; his stepdaughter Shaunna of Oklahoma City; his nephews, Chuck Bardin (Cindy) of Oklahoma City and Corey Miller (Carla) of Reagan; his niece Lindsey Hays (Trey) of Reagan; his great-nephews, Thomas Haney (Ashley), Quade Hays (Mary) and Jax Hays; his great-niece Dakotah Haney; and also, Brody Haney, Haylee Knighten and Ava Knighten. He is also survived by numerous other family members and friends.

During the pandemic, Jim entertained his family by writing a weekly newsletter detailing the latest happenings, from the fullness of the trash dumpster to the antics of the farm animals, the appearance of local eagles, and updates on his great-nephew Jax's fishing luck—or lack thereof.
