Ahnawake Leah Clark Obituary

Ahnawake Leah Bates Clark, 88, of Anadarko, Oklahoma passed away peacefully in her home with her granddaughter by her side on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. She was born in Lawton, OK on January 19, 1933 to George Bates and Amelia (Tighkobo) Bates. She grew up in Anadarko, OK and was in the graduating class of 1950. After graduation she married the love of her life Alfred Alan Clark on Sept 1, 1950 and to this union was one child born Alfred Alan Clark Jr.

She was a Kiowa/Wichita descendent and a proud enrolled member of the Kiowa tribe. As a teen, she was the 1949 Wichita Tribal Princess during The American Indian Exhibition. Ahnawake was a homemaker with an active lifestyle. In her younger years, she was on several bowling teams with various leagues here in Anadarko. She and her husband were active golfers.

After his death, she continued playing with her friends at the local golf course. She was part of the J.J. Methvin United Methodist Church Indian Taco team. She helped out whenever she could even during the busy Indian Fair times. She really enjoyed working with the ladies making those tasty tacos. She was avid follower of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, OKC Thunder, and Oklahoma Sooners.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, tatting as well as her favorite hobby, shopping. Ahnawake loved spending family time with her granddaughter and great grand daughters. Going to Branson, Missouri to Silver Dollar City every fall with her granddaughter and great granddaughters was one of her greatest joys and favorite travels for the last 45 years.

She was known for her sharp/snazzy dressing, bright beautiful smile and driving in her little white Mustang car. Ahnawake was kind, generous, very loving, but also quick to give you an earful if it was needed. Preceded in death by: parents; husband, Alfred Clark on Dec 1, 1997; 3 brothers, Virgil Bates, John "Buddy" Wolfe, and Perry Bates; 3 sisters, Britamarta Wolfe Ware, Lois Ruth Wolfe Whiteman, and Georgia Bates Trout.

She is survived by her son, Alan Clark & wife, Carol of Choctaw, OK. Granddaughter, Stephanie Clark Cox & husband, Robert, of the home. Great Grandaughters: Stesha Tacker of Dallas, TX, and Kennedy Seales, also of the home Loved by numerous family and friends. Officiating: Rev. Sam Horse. Memorial Service: 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 27th, 2021 Ray and Martha's Funeral Home, Anadarko, OK.
