He was predeceased by: his parents, James Fontana and Naomi E. Fontana (Doughty). He is survived by: his children, Jack Fontana, Amy Dunn (Tim), Holly Kirkegard (Chad) and Emily Harding (Bryan); the mother of his children Kathy Fontana; his brother James David Fontana; and his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Dunn, Alex Dunn, Keeley Kirkegard, Cambry Kirkegard, Kallyn Kirkegard, Lucas Anderson and Katherine Anderson.
