He was predeceased by: his parents, Eugene O'Brien and Betty O'Brien; and his brother Timothy. He is survived by: his grandchildren, Richie and Patrick; his close friend Associates Realtors; his wife Susan O'Brien (Mayo); his children, Jillian DeSalvo (Mark), Richie (Allison) and Patrick O'Brien (Alexis Paidas); his brother Michael O'Brien (Linda); his grandchildren, Hadlee, Phebee, Cooper, Mark and Nolan; his siblings-in-law, Dr. John Mayo (Debbie), Janet McCarthy (John) and Dr. Richard Mayo (Fran); his aunts, Alice Rose Mayo Sinchok and Helen Tincher (Charles); and his uncle Russ Peacock (Janet). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The ocean brought such peace and tranquility to Rich, especially in Corolla in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where the wild horses also make their home, so in lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a charitable donation to the Corolla Wild Horse Fund 1130 E.
