He is survived by: his daughters, Vera Darnell, Wanda Smith and Diane Smith Dawson; his sisters, Georgia M. Mann, Thelma J. Walker and Annie of Birmingham, Alabama; his granddaughter Monique Rochelle Darnell of Columbus; his great grandchildren, James Melvin Jr., Mariana Ja'mes Gilmer and S'Emiya Renee Gilmer; his great great grandchildren, Demetrius Huff Jr., Da'Moni J. Huff and Ja'Rainna Laree Gilmer; his godson Anthony Hester of Pittsburgh, PA.; his wife Odessa Griggs Smith; and his siblings, Jimmy Lee Smith, Eldred Smith Sr., Eugene Smith, Willie John Smith, Elmira Smith Payne, Velmira Booker and Lillie Bernice Booker. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, family and friends.
