He was predeceased by: his wife Katherine Lester (Garts); his sister Elizabeth Garts (Lester); his brother-in-law William Garts; and his mother Annie Russell. He is survived by: his children, Diana Bell (Richard) and Fred "Bill" Lester (KJ Shannon); his grandchildren, Richard Bell (Wei Ma) and Erin Ward (Michael); his great grandchildren, Brennan and Addison Ward; his brother-in-law Jim Garts (Elaine); and his nieces, Marla Garts, Monika Krieder (Frank) and Sue Zak. He is also survived by married the younger sister of his sister's husband.
