He was predeceased by: his parents, Lavina M. Gifford (Edwards) and Benjamin C. Gifford; and his siblings, Benjamin Gifford, Robert Gifford, Margaret Gifford, Doris Brown, Ruth Rives, Donald Gifford and Janice Muterspaw.
He is survived by: his wife Walfriede Gifford; his daughter Elizabeth "Liz"; his son-in-law Bill Trubee of Xenia; his grandsons, Luke Trubee (Gretchen) of Kettering and Nick Trubee (Lyndsey) of Lexington, Kentucky; his great grandchildren, Brody, Mia, Graham and Miles; and his brother Richard "Spike" Gifford. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Due to the restrictions of Covid19 the family has chosen to have private graveside services with military honors at the St. Brigid Cemetery.
