He was predeceased by: his parents, Adam Ringer and Lucille Thurman Ringer; and his sister Mickey Swigart. He is survived by: his former wife Linda Kemp Ringer (Palmer); his children, Beth Phipps (John), Michael E. Ringer (Sonja) and Robert E. Ringer (Brenda Brill); his grandchildren, Jacob Phipps (Brandy) of Washington, C. H., Kristin Phipps (Jeff Gore) and Virginia; his great grandchildren, Jarett, Jenna and Jaelynn; and his sister Phyllis Harner (Glen). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and by many close friends.
