He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Gilbert and Thelma Mae Gilbert (Marshall); his wife Elizabeth Lea Evans; his sons, Dana Eugene Gilbert and David Alan Gilbert; his granddaughter Megan Elizabeth Smith; and his brothers, Denny Gilbert and Jim Gilbert.
He is survived by: his daughter Tamara; his children-in-law, John Smith of Shelby and Diane Gilbert of Wooster; his grandsons, Ryan Smith (Rachel), Jason Smith, Sean Smith (Rachele) and Adam Gilbert; his great grandchildren, Caleb, Eli, Olivia, Nore, Gennavieve and Josephine; and his sister Doris Beninghof.
