He was predeceased by: his parents, Christy Freshwater and Victoria Freshwater (Chess); and his siblings, Chester, Stanley, Larry, Raymond, Hattie Kimberland, Violet Reese and Betty Huntington.
He is survived by: his children, Douglas Freshwater (Charlene) of Wintersville, Dianna Vandeborne (Don) of Wintersville and Marion "Bootie" Schuck (Mike) of Bloomingdale; his grandchildren, Terri Smith (Jeff), Douglas Freshwater (Jan), Mike Freshwater (Krissy), Kurt Vandeborne, Don Vandeborne (Karen), Heather Tabor (Adam), Michele Vantchev (Stefan) and Mike Schuck II; his great grandchildren, Zachary, Ariel, Gavin Smith, Dustin, Adam, Madison, Mike, Austin, Peyton, Drake Freshwater, Donnie, Karlie Vandeborne, Benjamin, Jenna Tabor and Starr Vantchev; and his sister Doris Grimes of Arizona.
