He was predeceased by: his parents, J. D. McHugh and Marian McHugh (Kollar); his brother Roger; his nephew Larry McCoy; and his sister Marian Marlene.

He is survived by: his wife Rosemary A. McHugh (Phillips); his sons, Todd McHugh (Carie) and Mathew McHugh (Alexandra); his nieces, Nola and Lucy; his siblings, Gerald McHugh, Esther McCoy (Lamont) and Dorothy Toth (Andy); and his mother-in-law Roberta Phillips of Smithfield.
