He was predeceased by: his parents, Ira E. Surface Sr. and Glenna I. Shuey Surface; his wife Janet R. Surface; and his siblings, Phyllis A. Surface, Ira E. Surface, Jr., Robert E. Surface, Richard A. Surface and Donnie L. Surface.
He is survived by: his stepchildren, Connie Bashore (Steve Kunert) of Wilmington, Dan Bashore (Nikki) of Galena and Brian Bashore of Gahanna; and his brother Thomas W. Surface of Bonne, NC. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren.
